Indigenous sovereignty and the power of story: A climate wayfinding dialogue with Jade Begay
Join us for a conversation with Jade Begay, policy and advocacy director at NDN Collective, to explore Jade’s climate journey and current work. Hosted by Dr. Katharine Wilkinson.
Jade is a climate justice organizer, policy expert, and narrative strategist. She’s a citizen of Tesuque Pueblo and is also Diné and Southern Ute. She works at the intersections of storytelling, narrative strategy, climate and environmental justice, and Indigenous rights policy both at the domestic and international level.
In this conversation, we’ll hear from Jade about how she found her place in climate work by combining her gift for crafting stories with her fierce commitment to Indigenous sovereignty.
Jade has a BA in film/video and communications and an MA in environmental leadership. In 2021, she was appointed by President Biden to serve on the inaugural White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council. Now, Jade directs the policy and advocacy work at NDN Collective, leading programs and projects that advance the self-determination of Indigenous Peoples and Tribal Nations.
This event is a Wayfinding Dialogue — the first in a new series from The All We Can Save Project. We’ll explore the paths of climate leaders and movement-makers of all stripes, and hear how they’ve found their way in climate work.

Climate Wayfinding: A 5-week course for finding your place in climate work
If you're holding questions about your place in climate work, seeking deeper contribution, and especially if you're looking to explore those questions in immersive community, this course is designed for you. Led by Dr. Katharine Wilkinson and Nicole Ng.
Course trajectory
Look inward — explore your essential climate emotions, skills and superpowers, and guiding values
Audre Lorde taught us that “our feelings are our most genuine paths to knowledge.” We will unearth the essential emotions, values, and motivations that we bring with us into climate work, as well as the skills and superpowers we want to contribute to this moment of collective transformation.Look outward — explore climate solutions, accelerators for change, and “kindred” initiatives
The toolbox of climate solutions is vast and varied, and there are powerful accelerators or leverage points for change. We will use our energy as a way to filter and gain focus. Then we will ground those possibilities in our contexts and communities — the spheres within which change can happen.Look forward — design a personalized “compass” to guide your climate journey
Climate wayfinding is the work of our lifetimes and a muscle we will continue to use and develop. As this course moves to completion, we will weave together the threads of exploration and discovery. Each of us will create our own “climate compass,” define our growth edges, and plan for next steps.
Course logistics
5 live online sessions.
We will be running two concurrent cohorts, starting in October 2022. One cohort will start on Wednesday, October 19, and will run for 5 consecutive Wednesdays. The second cohort will start on Thursday, October 20, and and will run for 5 consecutive Thursdays. In an effort to accommodate more timezones, we are providing four possible options for the days/times of our upcoming cohorts — please specify your availability in the application.
Course cost is tiered at $700, $350, or $0 for all five sessions; see landing page for more details. Full scholarships available.
Each cohort has 25 participants, with multiple opportunities to connect in smaller groups and via an online slack community
Applications close September 16, 2022.
